In contemporary literature, the theme of a text would be The topic of the text.

It can be divided between what the reader thinks the text is about, and what the actual text says about a subject. It is the central idea that supports the approach of the text and the action developed in it. The theme of a text can be resumed in a few words, such as "solitude", "love", "human conflict with nature", but the author's message would be a thesis on that theme, what his or her words imply on that theme.

Also, bear in mind that even if one theme is central, a text can have more than one themes and also express different points of view on them.

Alex73 [517]

Answer:

B). To encourage readers to look for birds.

Explanation:

As per the given sentence, the idea of proposing different ways to own a 'Big Year' is 'to encourage the readers to look for birds'. The author's central idea is that he wishes the readers to explore the birds and have a birding experience. He feels that to have a 'big year', it does not require 'a travel to a big birding continent' or 'winning of cash prizes' but only requires to 'explore the as many possible distinct species of birds'. Therefore, he convinces and motivates the readers to 'look for the birds and their distinct species' to have a 'big year' instead of insignificantly involving in a competition of prizes and beating each other. Hence, option B is the correct answer.
