A stereotype is an exaggerated generalization about a group of people that is aimed at passing as a truth about that group but that, being a generalization, fails to capture the singularities and peculiarities that define that group that is made up of individuals that always escape the stereotype. In this case, the stereotype is that all secretaries are women, as if only women could perform that job and not men as well.
