I think the intellectuals and artists served as targets for the red guards because they are mostly initiators of change and a source of different progressive or counter-ideological thinking on government systems. In history, intellectuals and artists played a revolutionary part of presenting divergence that presented different thoughts of truths. They have talents, skills, and knowledge on influencing people with other perspectives.

My art in Elementary school was mostly just things I saw and thought I liked. I created things I saw in the real world. Now, looking at my art, I think its more spontaneous, more emotion conveying. I create things I see in dreams, the real world, and my minds eye. Converting emotions, thoughts, and dreams into something physical.
