How do you work out the area of a compound shape

To work out the area of a compound shape you first have to split the shape and look for regular shapes i.e  rectangles, squares, triangles. 

area for a square is Length * Width also the same for a rectangle

area for a triangle = Base * Height / 2 (not the length)

Then you need to look which sides have already been given then work out how to find each missing side to work out the area.

It is best to learn this by looking for a youtube a tutorial as i can not show you what i mean by finding missing sides.
