Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is a good example of a government based effort to improve resource use and management and the environment in the United States.

The main reason the United States developed the Environmental Protection Agency is to control or regulates certain things such as pollution and resource usage.

Further Explanation

The agency was put in place to enforce the law that would bring out a reduction in the consumption of natural resources towards reducing the effect they have on the environment.

To addresses these issues, the Environmental Protection Agency has created numerous regulations for organizations and corporations in a bid to limit them to a particular volume or amount of emissions. These regulations create limitation as to how cooperation and organizations can discharge their waste

To enforce this law, the Environmental Protection Agency continues to pressurize companies to be conscious of their environment and devised measures to ensure a decrease in the amount of emissions.

Also, there are quite numbers of programs that Environmental protection overseer.

Some of these programs include

 • The EPA safer choice program
 • The Energy Star program
 • Watersense
 • The smart growth program
 • The national pollutant Discharge Elimination System.

All these programs are intended to promote sustainable growth, environmental stewardship and also to prevent pollution.

All governments should implement some policies that regulate the overexploitation of natural resources and preserve them for use by future generations. This is called ‘sustainable development’ which provides for resource conservation and introduction of environment-friendly industrial measures.

Further Explanation-

The governments of every country should compel all industries and commercial organizations to undertake environment-friendly operations, especially the discharge of industrial waste, which has severe impacts on the delicate balance of the environment. An example can be found in the Environment Protection Agency, an initiative by President Richard Nixon, to enforce laws that would require industries to consume resources in a sustainable manner, and co-operate towards reducing industrial waste and emissions.

The Environmental Protection Agency enforces regulatory measures upon industries so that the limited supply of exhaustible natural resources does not get exhausted, and is available for utilization by future generations. The EPA encourages industries to utilize environment-friendly options in the production process, and treat toxic wastes so that it is devoid of harmful elements before it is discharged in the rivers. The EPA can also take punitive measures such as fines and lockdowns for those industries which do not comply with the environment-friendly standards that are compulsorily imposed. The EPA also undertakes awareness programs, to spread information about the dangers of climate change, industrial waste and pollution, and its effects on human health. Some of these programs such as the Energy Star Program and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination help to co-ordinate efforts of the government and the industries in combating the problems of health hazards caused by industrial waste.
