e leg dropped straight from the knee to the ankle without a calf, and the machine was to bend the knee and make it move as riding a tricycle. Answer:

The doctor said:" That will all pass. You are a fortunate young man. You will play football again like a champion."

Explanation:

Irony is a rhetorical device that shows or means the exact opposite of what is expected of a particular scene or situation. It can be of three types- verbal irony, dramatic irony, and situational irony.

As given in the passage, Hemingway's "In Another Country" is about an American soldier getting physical therapy for his war injuries. And the best example of irony from the passage is when the doctor said <em>"You are a fortunate young man. You will play football again like a champion"</em>. This is ironic because as we can see, the speaker/ protagonist clearly stated that <em>"My knee did not bend and the leg dropped straight from the knee to the ankle without a calf"</em>, meaning his leg was completely useless. And <u>the doctor's claim that he will play football again is quite the irony for looking at the current condition, there is no way he will even be walking properly. </u>

Fallow is to occupied as what is to what
Simora [160]
Since fallow means empty, the word occupied is obviously its opposite. So, in order to complete this analogy, we need to find another pair of words that are each other's opposites. The correct answer should be C. free:busy.

What evidence from the passage best supports the inference that making sugar was difficult? Select two options.
KIM [24]

The words that support the inference that making sugar was difficult are;

  • "the work was governed by extremely tight, rigid discipline"
  • "careful organization did not solve the second problem with sugar"

In describing the plantations that existed in Jamaica during the era of slavery, the excerpt mentions that between 50 and up to a hundred workers were required to work in the plantations.

The Muslims and Christians organized methods to use their slaves in the plantations. Still, these did not yield many results.

So, despite the rigid discipline and careful organization, sugar making was still difficult.

well now.

D. Though she started with the flute two years later Aisha plays the piano and the flute very well now

Answer : Though she started with the flute two years later, Aisha plays the piano and the flute very well  now( A )

Explanation:

The best way to combine the information in the two clauses is : Though she started with the flute two years later, Aisha plays the piano and the the flute very well.

This is because the two clauses carry a piece of information which is incomplete and to combine the clauses to get the complete information a ( ,  ) is used in order to indicate the beginning and the end of each clause that make up the complete information. The third sentence contains a " but " which is a reason word therefore those not represent the best way of combining the clauses because one of the clause already contains a reason word " though "
