By the end of 1870 nearly 40 million people were recorded living in the United states. Population change was most likely due to the fact of how fast America was reproducing since the troops of war had come home to visit their families. The 14th amendment was created from the Civil War and it stated that “any person born or naturalized in the United States of America” was a citizen. The other amendment that was created as a result of the Civil War was the 13th amendment which abolished slavery.
