The campaign of women for their ability to vote began decades before the Civil
War. After the World War I, women activists emphasized the ability of women to
contribute to the war effort. This helped them point out that women are just as
equally capable as men.

Stokely Carmichael was the first to popularly use the term "Black Power". Carmichael said it at a speech in 1966 and stated that Black Power needs to be used as a slogan and term of solidarity between African Americans.
