How did the changes that Augustus made to the roman tax system reduce government corruption

History

He did that by making tax collectors permanent Government officials and paid them Regular Wages.

Before Augustus' new policy, tax collecting was being done by Publicanis ( in modern world, they would be some sort of public contractor). These Publicanis often give the Government a smaller tax payment than they actually collect. By cutting them off the system and paying the new collectors Regular wage, Augustus manage to prevent this occurrence from happening again<span />

In the mid-1800s what issue divided the political parties? which two parties remained after the civil war?
34kurt
Slavery divided the political parties in the mid-1800s. Even the small parties couldn't agree on how to handle it. The major parties had attempted to continue slavery despite losing and outlawing the slave trade. The other side had attempted to wipe it out and simply confine it. The Republican party would work to abolish slavery, while the Democratic Party would work to find ways to continue to oppress African Americans.

(drag and drop the actions to match the emperor who is famous for doing it) out of Constantine, Diocletian, and Hadrian which on
KatRina [158]

The correct answers are:

  • Constantine: built a new city in the east
  • Diocletian: split the empire into east and west
  • Hadrian: traveled the empire and built a wall in Britain

Constantine was a Roman Emperor who ruled between 306 and 337 AD. He is the founder of the Byzantine Empire, also referred to as the Eastern Roman Empire, and also moved the capital of the Roman Empire to the east to the city of Byzantium in 330 AD, and renamed it Constantinople after himself.

Diocletian was a Roman emperor from 284 to 305 AD. By 285 AD, the Roman Empire had grown so vast that it was no longer possible to govern all the provinces from the central seat of Rome. Consequently, Diocletian decided to divide the empire into two: the Eastern Empire governed from Byzantium (later Constantinople) and the Western Empire governed from Rome.

Hadrian was Roman emperor from 117 to 138 AD.  He is famous for building Hadrian's Wall, a wall between Roman Britain and Scotland marking north-west frontier of the Roman Empire.
