Why is American Government and Politics important?

My dad's friend once told me that there's only three major reasons as to why the government/politics are important:

1. Governmental and political decisions impact almost every aspect of our everyday lives.

2. Having knowledge of politics helps make you an informed voter.

And 3. Politics are entertaining.

Okay, to be honest, politics don't really entertain me, but you know what, that's just my opinion, I know that plenty of people find politics entertaining, I'm just not one of them.

But yeah, anyway.
