Click to read "Forgetfulness," by Billy Collins. Then answer the question.Which of the following is a possible theme of the poem

? A.It's important to keep your brain sharp and active so you won't lose your memory. B.Lost memories will always return to your subconscious as dreams. C.The experience of losing memories can be frightening, but it can also be beautiful. D.Retiring, packing a bag, and floating down a river are similar to losing one's memory.
The name of the author is the first to go
followed obediently by the title, the plot,
the heartbreaking conclusion, the entire novel
which suddenly becomes one you have never read,
never even heard of,

as if, one by one, the memories you used to harbor
decided to retire to the southern hemisphere of the brain,
to a little fishing village where there are no phones.

Long ago you kissed the names of the nine Muses goodbye
and watched the quadratic equation pack its bag,
and even now as you memorize the order of the planets,

something else is slipping away, a state flower perhaps,
the address of an uncle, the capital of Paraguay.

Whatever it is you are struggling to remember,
it is not poised on the tip of your tongue,
not even lurking in some obscure corner of your spleen.

It has floated away down a dark mythological river
whose name begins with an L as far as you can recall,
well on your own way to oblivion where you will join those
who have even forgotten how to swim and how to ride a bicycle.

No wonder you rise in the middle of the night
to look up the date of a famous battle in a book on war.
No wonder the moon in the window seems to have drifted
out of a love poem that you used to know by heart.

In "Forgetfulness", by Billy Collins, the possible theme of the poem is<em> D. Retiring, packing a bag, and floating down a river are similar to losing one's memory</em>. First, Collins writes that we first forget the author of a novel and then we completely forget of its existence at all. Lost memories are compared to someone retiring to a fishing place without phones, so we cannot reach them. There is a personification when he writes that the memory of the quadratic equation "pack its bag". He then writes about floating down the Lehte river, it is a Greek mythological river and if you floated down its waters you forgot what you knew.

Which quotation from the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe has a similar central idea
ad-work [718]

Hello. You forgot to provide answer options. The options are:

""This story is about something that happened to them when they were sent away from London during the war because of the air-raids."

"He himself was a very old man with shaggy white hair, which grew over most of his face as well as on his head, and they liked him almost at once."

"I tell you this is the sort of house where no one's going to mind what we do. Anyway, they won't hear us."

"Mrs. Macready and the visitors were still talking in the passage; but luckily they never came into the empty room and so the children weren't caught.""

Answer:

"I tell you this is the sort of house where no one's going to mind what we do. Anyway, they won't hear us."

Explanation:

"The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" is the first book in the series called "The chronicles of Narnia". The main theme of this book is to report the adventures of a group of children who discover, inside the house, a passage to the kingdom of Narnia, a magical place with a great battle between good and evil.

No resident of the house realizes when the children are in Narnia, because the house is very large and they manage to go unnoticed.

Among the options given in the question above, the one that best resembles the central theme of the story is: "I tell you this is the sort of house where no one going to mind what we do. Anyway, they won't hear us."

Vladimir79 [104]

Answer: Choice B

Explanation: The answer is "Our story's told by many..." because in this instance, <em>story </em>is singular possessive. This means that the sentence says "Our story is told by many..." and the <em>'s</em> refers to belonging to <em>story</em>.
