Most Native American cultures are usually very spiritual and community-centered in nature. This is in sharp contrast to the concepts of Native American culture as most Native Americans strongly believe in natural resource production and preservation. Climate is important because if an area is too cold or too hot, it's harder for significant amounts of peoples to survive there, particularly if they are dependent on agriculture. The land itself is also crucial since some types of soil are much preferable for agriculture than others. Although these generalizations are not assigned to such a diverse population.

Steinbeck switches to the second person in 'Why Soldier's Won't Talk' when he catalogs the responses of the soldier's he talked to about the effects of combat to make the experience more real, personal and authentic to the reader. He does this in the 'Grapes of Wrath' as well.
