The correct answer is D. Struggling spirit

Explanation:

An archetypal character is a type of character that represents common patterns of human behavior and nature and is used as a universal symbol. Because of this, archetype characters are characters commonly found in literary works that describe the personality and behavior of people that can similarly be found in different cultures around the world. Examples of archetypical characters include the hero, the innocent person, the orphan and the rebel.

In the case of the excerpt presented from "The Awakening" by Kate Chopin the narrator describes the way in which the character Edna Pontellier had begun to have contradictory thoughts and impulses as she wishes to go to the beach but declines to go and by doing this she still had followed her impulses which is also contradictory.

This shows Edna is not sure about how to behave and it is struggling between her impulses and desires and the behaviors that are expected from her. Because of this, this character mainly represents the "struggling spirit" as the character is struggling to determine what is right or wrong, additionally, this is a common feature of human nature as it is quite common for humans to have difficulties to be free or to know the way they should behave, therefore this is also an archetypical character in literature. Thus, in the excerpt presented the character Edna Pontellier represents the archetypical character "struggling spirit".

Answer:

Incongruity

Explanation:

Incongruence is the term used to describe a situation in which an individual provides inaccurate and contradictory information with one another. We can see this in the passage above, when the narrator states that a single person is a good man and a better exhorter, because these two characteristics are extremely contradictory.

The excerpt shown above belongs to "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" story written by Mark Twain, where we are introduced to Jim Smiley who believed that his frog was the biggest jumper in relation to all the frogs in the city.

Which type of compound does the sentence contain?
MariettaO [177]

The correct answer is A. Compound object

Explanation:

In grammar, the object refers to the entity that is being affected by the subject (agent of the action) and the main action or verb. This means the object is the entity being acted upon and usually placed after the main action or verb. Additionally, a sentence with a compound object is one that contains two or more objects usually linked by coordinating conjunctions such as "like", "and", "or" and "neither".

In the case of the sentence "Mrs. Khan likes baseball and softball" the subject or agent that performs the action is "Mrs. Khan" the main action is "likes" and the object or entity being acted upon is "baseball and softball" which is composed by two objects or ideas separated by the coordinating conjunction "and". Considering the object of this sentence is composed of two ideas it can be concluded the object "baseball and softball" is compound. Therefore, the type of compound the sentence "Mrs. Khan likes baseball and softball" contains is a compound object.
