Given:

The decimal number 1.42

To find:

The fraction and percent.

Solution:

<u>Writing 1.42 in the fraction form:</u>

In the given picture 100 small box makes 1 whole number.

Therefore 1=\frac{100}{100}

$1.42=\frac{100}{100}+\frac{42}{100}

Denominators are same, so you can add the numerators.

      $=\frac{142}{100}  

Converting improper fraction into mixed fraction.

      $=1\frac{42}{100}

<u>Writing 1.42 in the percent form:</u>

1.42 = 100% + 42$

      = 142%

1.42 = 142%
