EXTRA INFO THAT YOU MAY NEED TO KNOW FOR THE FUTURE

First lady Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962), wife of Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1945), the U.S. president from 1933 to 1945, was a leader in her own right and involved in numerous humanitarian causes throughout her life. The niece of President Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919), Eleanor was born into a wealthy New York family. She married Franklin Roosevelt, her fifth cousin once removed, in 1905. By the 1920s, Roosevelt, who raised five children, was involved in Democratic Party politics and numerous social reform organizations. In the White House, she was one of the most active first ladies in history and worked for political, racial and social justice. After President Roosevelt’s death, Eleanor was a delegate to the United Nations and continued to serve as an advocate for a wide range of human rights issues. She remained active in Democratic causes and was a prolific writer until her death at age 78.

Eleanor Roosevelt died at age 78 on November 7, 1962, in New York City, from aplastic anemia, tuberculosis and heart failure. Her funeral was attended by President Kennedy and former presidents Harry Truman (1884-1972) and Dwight Eisenhower (1890-1969). She was buried next to her husband on the grounds of the Roosevelt estate in Hyde Park.

Question:

1) Think of an experience or story about how you bargain the price of the product you buy at the vendors in the market or store. Then answer the questions below.

2) Does it matter that you are negotiating the price of the sellers? What are the consequences when you negotiate a price?

Answer:

1) I once went to my father friend's store and was looking for a dress for my concert. I found one that I have wanted ever since I was a little girl. But the price was a little higher than expected. I asked my father's friend in the store to please lower the price for me and explained my situation. He understood but told me that I would be able to get it for free, for now than pay later but with interest. I agreed then after instead of paying $35 it was about $43.

2) Sellers aren't usually very happy when customers try to change the price, so if you do there might be consequences. The seller might make you pay more after or they could suggest that you pick something else that's affordable.

Why does the poet most likely use the words “damp and brown” to describe the sands?
Dominik [7]

Damp is a negative word used to describe humidity; pretty much like moist, but while moist has a positive connotation (moist is desirable), damp has a negative one (nobody wants to live in a damp house). Brown, on the other hand, is a color associated with sadness, isolation and loneliness. The words “Damp and Brown” in the poem are used by the author to create a visual imagery of a not so pleasant sad beach. The author is using visual imagery to to make the poem more haunting or unsettling.

We can conclude that the correct answer is: to make the poem more haunting or unsettling.
