'George Orwell' wrote 'Animal Farm' in the year 1945. It is a political fable which is a socialist utopia for animals. It symbolizes the Russia and Soviet Union under communist party rule.

'Animal Farm' could mean any society whether be a capitalist, communist, socialist or fascist.

In the book Animal Farm Orwell was initially a socialist utopia for animals.

Orwell's main message is to warn the readers about the selfish politicians and the privileged class of the society. They who are only worried about their power and they use that power to control and oppress the lower class.

It could very well be between a metaphor and idiom.... An idiom would be something like a dark horse- could be taken literally or figuratively... A metaphor makes a comparison of some sort or something along those line, it seems more of a metaphor because it could be comparing the wait to the music that used to be heard in the community during childhood. (I hope this helps and again that's just the thing that comes to mind for me- I could be wrong)
