The Frankish ruler Clovis (r.481-511) introduced to medieval Europe the idea that people can be ruled by one ruler, instead of many chieftains. He equally introduced the idea that the rule would be passed down through heirs. He is renown for being the first king to really represent France, as one united country, as before it was many different tribes. He also converted to Christianity and introduced Christendom to France.
