In 1831, Charles Darwin visited the Galapagos Islands. While observing the giant land tortoises that lived on these islands, Dar

win noted that the shape of the tortoise shell varied depending on which island the tortoise lived. Tortoises on one island had round shells, for example, whereas tortoises on a neighboring island had more flattened, saddle-shaped shells. Which statement BEST summarizes Darwin's explanation for these differences? A) Random mutations caused the shape of the shells to fluctuate periodically. B) The shape of the tortoise shell varied because the predators on the islands were all similar. C) The particular shape of the shell was best suited for the island on which the tortoise was living. D) Tortoises who used their shells in special ways caused the shells to become larger, rounder, or flatter.

Write a hypothesis that explains how the Hawaiian island chain formed. Explain your hypothesis. Describe how your data supports,
Assoli18 [71]
I think that the Hawaiian islands were created by volcanoes. On each island, there is at least one volcano. Although, each island was created at a different time. Ni'ihau which is the smallest and still visible island was made about 200 years ago. Although during this time, the biggest island, Hawaii, or The Big Island is still active. The volcano Kilauea is still active on the island of Hawaii. Also the islands moved based on the plate tectonic theory. While the plates move, the volcano and the island does also. Therefore it creates a chain of islands. The data supports because there are still remains of the volcano's lava left on the island. They are visible around the edges of Waimanalo and the Northshore (on the island of Oahu). Also there are news reports and videos of lava pouring into the ocean on the island of Hawaii.

Answer:

Row 1

T-tubule

Dihydropyridine (DHP) receptors of the transverse tubule membrane play two roles in excitation-contraction coupling in skeletal muscle: (a) they function as the voltage sensor which undergoes fast transition to control release of calcium from sarcoplasmic reticulum, and (b) they provide the conducting unit of a slowly ...

Row 2

Sarcolemma

Ryanodine receptors (RyRs) are located in the sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum membrane and are responsible for the release of Ca2+ from intracellular stores during excitation-contraction coupling in both cardiac and skeletal muscle.
