That although slavery was abolished in the British Empire in 1833 (thirty years before the Emancipation Proclamation in the United States), British sugar plantation owners looked up in India to find cheap labor to cut cane and process sugar. Meaning that this was also an enslaved work because of the conditions that were given for Indians.
