Following WW2, Germany was dissolved into two halves: East and West Germany, the Eastern portion was held by the USSR (Russia), while the Western portion was controlled by France, the US, and the UK. This began the Cold War, where nuclear and political tension took place between the opposing sides. While its Western counterpart was Capitalist and Democratic, East Germany was Communist.
