Why was James Buchanan an appealing presidential candidate to most people?

History
1 answer:
Hitman42 [59]3 years ago
7 0

Answer:

Hailing from some populous state as a longtime member of Congress and an envoy to Russia and England, Buchanan had many attractive political assets. In essence, Buchanan gave the delegates the kind of hope that seemed in short supply during the tumultuous mid-1850s. A smooth, pleasantly dull conservative, he upset few people. Above all, Buchanan was from the North, yet he maintained ideological ties to the South—a "doughface" in the slang of the day. Buchanan forces quietly told the Douglas men that cooperation from the "Little Giant" would enhance his chances for 1860, and Douglas withdrew from the race. "Old Buck" got more ballots than any other candidate in the first round, and he clinched the Democratic nomination with the requisite two-thirds majority on the seventeenth ballot, an easy victory during that bitter era. John C. Breckinridge of Kentucky received the party's vice presidential nod.

The arms race between the United States and the Soviet Union began when
Alika [10]

Answer:

The Soviet Union developed its own atomic bomb.

Explanation:

Among the world leaders, the United States was the first to develop and even test out its nuclear weapon. The attack of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the Second World War helped project the US as the most powerful power.

But the development of nuclear arms by the Soviet Union led to competition for the world power. The Soviets developed their own atomic bomb and tested its very first atomic bomb in 1949. This nuclear test codenamed "<em>RDS-1" or "First Lightning"</em> at the Semipalatinsk test site in what is now modern-day Kazakhstan led to the race for power especially between the United States and the Soviet Union.

Thus, the correct answer is the second option.

Following the death of Queen Anne in 1714, George I was crowned as king of Britain. Which of the following statements describes
TEA [102]

Answer: He had little domestic interest in Britain and allowed Parliament to consolidate the gains of the Glorious Revolution.

Explanation:

George I was the ruler of a Duchy in Germany before he became King of England and upon his succession, he was not very interested in the affairs of Britain and was frequently going back to Germany. It was even said that he did not speak a lot of English.

These factors and more allowed Parliament and the Prime Minister, Robert Walpole, to claw power from the Monarchy such that after George I died, the Prime Ministerial position got stronger with every succeeding monarch.

__________ occurs when private businesses are allowed to supply services that government has traditionally provided.
Solnce55 [7]

The correct answer is B. Privatization

Explanation:

The term "privatization" refers to the process that implies moving services or similar from public or government to the private section. This implies services formerly provided by the government are transferred to private businesses that are in charge of providing the same services. This occurs in sectors such as education or prison management in which the state decides to pay to private companies or entities to provide services that are in charge of the government. This term is the opposite of "nationalization" in which private services or sector become public. Considering this, the one that occurs when private businesses are allowed to supply services that government provided is privatization.
