The answer is d. disrespect.  The United States was still starting out as a country. It still had to improve its system of government and had yet to develop its currency and banking system.  There was stiff competition in trade as the British and other Europeans still had influence on other parts of the country. Eventually the United States grew stronger and expanded its control over the continent and became the world power that it is today.
