What factor most likely contributes to Darwin’s hesitation to publish On the origin of Species for twenty years?
e-lub [12.9K]

The correct answer is: B. Worry about political climate

Explanation:

One of the biggest reasons why Darwin waited 20 years to publish his theory  On the origin of Species was because of the religious implications it carried. It is known that in the time of 19th century, Victorian period in England, religion and the Church played great role in the politics and in the life of society. Therefore, the scientist was afraid of the reaction of people on his brave words that there is no sharp line between a human being and "lower animal". Darwin knew that publishing his work would provoke a very controversial issue, and he was right.

Read the following message and identify the organizational pattern used. Our company is growing fast, which always means changes
Natalija [7]

Answer

A more effective outline should have the following characteristics: Divide the main topic into major components, make each subpoint exclusive and allow subpoints to overlap.

Explanation:

Dividing the main topic into major components allows you to show a better understanding of the topic and also helps you to better organize the text. Each of these components should have subpoints that develops the major component addressed in the paragraph; here, each subpoint should be exclusive in that it needs to be explained clearly in relation to the component it is supporting. Finally, when subpoints are overlapped the transition from one paragraph to the next is more clear .

Write a narrative which includes the words, 'I was so focused'.
Rashid [163]

Feel free to change anything that is not to your taste.

Answer and Explanation:

I was so focused I couldn't hear the cries and screams at first. It took me a couple of minutes to realize some building were in flames, lighting up like torches, illuminating the streets and the people below. I looked at the sky again, mesmerized by the size of the ships, fascinated by their unusual colors and appearance. Someone tugged my shirt and yelled “run”. I ran.

So this is what it felt like. The invasion so many art works had predicted. All those books and movies, all the effects to portray the appalling destruction we would face. Well, they were not wrong. Here they finally were – the others, the aliens. I wondered for an instant what they looked like, only to realize I would most likely never know. They were trying to kill me. They were trying to kill everyone. They were going to succeed.

We fought back, you see. And by “we” I don’t mean us, the citizens on the streets who had gone out to meet friends and lovers, to grab a bite and a beer. I mean our governments, our military forces. All to no avail; they were as doomed as the rest of us. Only we were going to die screaming in fear, while they were going to go in a glorious final moment of bravery and patriotism. It was death all the same.

No one is ready for an apocalypse. There are no bunkers, no safe houses or basements, no effective weapons just lying around, waiting to be used against extraterrestrials. I was not sure what to do, so I chose to keep on running for as long as I could to wherever looked safer. At a corner, I picked up a puppy that seemed too young to understand why so many humans were crazily darting by. I tucked it under my shirt, held it as safely and comfortably as was possible under such dire circumstances, and kept running.

Then, it was all over. The attacks ceased, the ships withdrew, the aliens left. What was that all about? The next morning, the puppy and I watched the news together – I was shocked at their professionalism; my mental state was far from balanced enough to go back to work, yet those reporters never even stopped. It was all a demonstration of power. They wanted us to know we are the weak ones. Apparently, there was no intention of colonizing our planet; or at least not for now. But we were to obey, to listen to their instructions, to heed their orders. They said it was for our own good. How ironic...
