Reverend Samuel Parris was a Puritan minister in Salem during Salem Witch trials. He was a relative of some of the girls, to be precise he was a father of one (Betty) and the uncle of another one (Abigail). He was a prosecutor of the witches in 17th century.
The Salem witch trial began with Paris` daughter accusing their slave of witch craft, Paris beat the slave up until her confession and then the husband of the slave started accusing others.
