Answer:

Brute

Explanation:

When Mr. Auld becomes unhappy with Douglass, he rents him out to Mr. Covey. Mr. Covey is a particularly bad man who "treats" problematic slaves. Douglass tells us that during this time, he became deadened by work. He was exhausted, depressed and hopeless. He also lost his instinct to learn and his cheerfulness. He tells us that he became like a "brute" in a famous quote:

"<em>The dark night of slavery closed in upon me; and behold a man transformed into a brute!"</em>

Answer:

The third answer

Explanation: (I think it's the third answer mainly because in the excerpt it says "...Somehow the mystery of language was revealed to me." After this quote, she began to spell out water, and I think this puts emphasis on her discovery of language.

Why is gatsby considered superficial ?
Effectus [21]

Answer:

In one sense, the title of the novel is ironic; the title character is neither “great” nor named Gatsby. ... Further, Gatsby impresses Nick with his power to make his dreams come true—as a child he dreamed of wealth and luxury, and he has attained them, albeit through criminal means.
