Satire is a type of art that exposes the vices, follies and shortcomings of important social institutions, such as corporations, government officials or society itself. Satire's ultimate purpose is to motivate a change in society by forcing its people to think about a particular issue.

Satire uses a similar language to sarcasm, and it is intended to ridicule as well as to entertain. However, sarcasm does not have the ultimate purpose of enacting social change, and therefore, is not restricted to works of art and literature.
