James Dean, Elvis Presley, and Allen Ginsberg were all popular with youth in the 1950's. They represented the embrace of machismo by mainstream society, but they each pertained to three completely different things. James Dean represented a male teen in his movies who was very unsure of himself, but in real life was venerated by many female fans. Elvis Presley used many sexually provocative dances to attract many females and Allen Ginsberg challenged the way homosexuality was perceived in a very machismo society.
