Find an example of verbal irony in hamlet's conversation with claudius and gertrude

English

In Act 1, Scene 2 of Hamlet, Hamlet has a conversation with Claudius and Gertrude. One example of verbal irony occurs when Hamlet says "<span>Not so, my lord. I am too much i' the sun."

In this scene, Claudius asks him why he continues to be so gloomy. (He specifically says, "</span><span>How is it that the clouds still hang on you?")

Hamlet's reply to Claudius' question is ironic. He is not "in the sun" -- first of all, he is in the castle; secondly, he is depressed and sad.</span>

The devil is waiting for them, hell is gaping for them, the flames gather and flash about them, and would fain lay hold on them,
Paha777 [63]

Answer:

<h3>devour.</h3>

Explanation:

The word which has a similar connotation to the word "swallow" in this excerpt is 'devour'. In the above excerpt, the writer talks about how the hell is eagerly waiting for them with its mouth wide open.

It projects the idea that the hell is impatiently waiting and paints a picture of <u>eagerness and excitement</u>. The word 'devour' would seem most appropriate to connect with the word 'swallow' as devour means to <u>consume eagerly and quickly.</u>
