English

In Act 1, Scene 2 of Hamlet, Hamlet has a conversation with Claudius and Gertrude. One example of verbal irony occurs when Hamlet says "Not so, my lord. I am too much i' the sun."

In this scene, Claudius asks him why he continues to be so gloomy. (He specifically says, "How is it that the clouds still hang on you?")

Hamlet's reply to Claudius' question is ironic. He is not "in the sun" -- first of all, he is in the castle; secondly, he is depressed and sad.

Rachel: This is a beautiful table! I love it! Is it new?

Camila: Well, it's new for me! I bought it yesterday at a house sale.

Rachel: Really? Where was the location of the sale?

Camila: On Fourth Street and Second Avenue, next to the library.

Rachel: Was it A big sale?

Camila: Yes. there were lots of things for sale, like furniture, clothes, toys, and books.

Rachel: That sounds like fun. Why didn't you tell me about it?

Camila: Because you told me that you were busy with work.

Rachel: Oh yeah. I was busy with work. Were you happy with the price you paid for the table?

Camila: Yes, I was! I got it for a really good price
