The three silver fleurs-de-lis on the blue section represent the French background of Acadiana. The fleurs-de-lis is a symbol of the king(s) of France. Louisiana was still under Spanish power when the Acadians were sent in. Since the Acadians flourished in Louisiana, a portion of the flag pays tribute to Spain.
