Who built the Panama Canal second?did they succeed?why or why not?

France was the first to built the Panama Canal, but had to stop halfway through, so the second country to build the Panama Canal was the United States which took over a decade to finish it. They were very successful as their engineer work in the Panama Canal enabled people trying to go through it to avoid the lengthy and hazardous route called the Cape Horn route around the tip of South America. Instead it was replaced with a faster and safer route which has proved very beneficial so far.
