An asset tag is a label applied to a piece of hardware that identifies the owner and is either indestructible or tamper-evident. Fixed assets such as desks, chairs, laptops, and overhead projectors are often labeled with an asset tag that contains a barcode. Asset tags are labels with a barcode attached, allowing the asset manager to keep an accurate record of the assets that are owned by the institution. The barcodes are scanned with a barcode scanner which is linked to a computer program.
