There are many ways that voting has changed in America. When America was founded, only property-owning white males could vote.
During the end of the 18th century to about the mid-1800s the part that you had to own property was removed.
In 1870, the 15th amendment was passed, which allowed males of all races to vote.
In 1920, the 19th amendment gave women the right to vote.
Decades later, the 23rd amendment let residents of Washington D.C. vote.
The 17th amendment also let the people choose who their Senators would be, not the Legislature.
