Mobility Partners makes wheelchairs and other assistive devices. For years it has made the rear wheel assembly for its wheelchai

rs. A local bicycle manufacturing firm, Trailblazers, Inc., offered to sell these rear wheel assemblies to Mobility. If Mobility makes the assembly, its cost per rear wheel assembly is as follows (based on annual production of 2,000 units):
Direct materials $ 25
Direct labor 53
Variable overhead 16
Fixed overhead 47
Total $ 141
Trailblazers offered to sell the assembly to Mobility for $110 each. The total order would amount to 2,000 rear wheel assemblies per year, which Mobility's management will buy instead of make if Mobility can save at least $10,000 per year. Accepting Trailblazers's offer would eliminate annual fixed overhead of $40,000.
Required:
(a) Prepare a schedule that shows the differential costs on the 2,000 rear wheel assemblies order. (Leave no cells blank - be certain to enter "0" wherever required. Input all amounts as positive values. Omit the "$" sign in your response.)
(b) Should Mobility make rear wheel assemblies or buy them from Trailblazers?

Answer:

Net savings from buying $ 8,000

Decision : The company should assemble

Explanation:

Unit variable cost of making = 25+ 53+ 16+ 47 = $94

                                                                                      $

Total variable cost ( $94 × 2,000) = 188,000

Total cost of external purchase ($110× 2000) 220,000

Extra variable cost from external purchase (32,000 )

add Savings in fixed overheads 40,000

Net savings from buying 8,000

Note that the fixed cost were not included because they not relevant for the decision. They would be incurred either way.

Decision.

Since the management wishes tom save at least $10,000 per year but the analysis above shows that the company can only save $8,000, then Mobility should not buy the product but rather assemble them

Answer:133333 units

Explanation:

Given

For First machine

Setup cost=$ 1100

unit cost =$ 0.006

For new machine

Setup cost=$ 1700

unit cost=$ 0.0015

Let x units be manufactured .

for Break even point

First machine manufacturing cost=New machine manufacturing cost

1100+(0.0060)x=1700+(0.0015)x

(0.0045)x=600

x=133333.333\approx 133333 units

Suppose consumer income increases. If grass seed is a normal good, the equilibrium price of grass seed will (Hint: use what you
s344n2d4d5 [400]

Consumer income has no correlation with the equilibrium price of a product. Thus the price will c. Not change

Explanation:

When the consumer income increases, they will be able to buy a product more if they require it and if they do not require it they are able to spend that money or save it up as they please to.

As equilibrium price of a product is completely dependent upon supply and demand correlation.

The income of the consumer has little to do with it unless a relation between increased income and increased demand is established, there is little evidence to show that there will be a fluctuation in the prices of the grass seed in this case.

The value-added method involves taking the cost of intermediate outputs (i.e., outputs that will, in turn, be used in the produc
Brut [27]

Answer:

Value Added = Value of Output - Intermediate Consumption = Final Goods . Value

Explanation:

This can be explained with an example:

A produces flour & sells it to Grocer for Rs 100. Grocer produces Wheat & sells it to Baker for Rs 150. Baker produces bread & sells it to Consumers for Rs 200.

Value of Final Product (Used by end consumers) i.e Bread = Rs 200.

However if considering total Value Of Output including all value added at each stage = 100 + 150 + 200 = 450. This is Overestimated value of Final product Bread, because of 'Double Counting' - Grocer's wheat includes the intermediate good (good purchased for further resale/reprocessing) value of flour and Baker's bread includes value of Wheat & flour intermediate products both.

This problem can be solved by: Calculating Value Added (by subtracting intermediate consumption) at each stage & then summing it to get the Final good value.

In this case: Farmer's Value Added = VO - IC = Flour Value - 0 = 100 .

Grocer's Value Added = VO - IC = Wheat - Flour Value = 150 - 100 = 50

Baker's Value Added = VO - IC = Bread - Wheat Value = 200 - 150 = 50

Adding value added by all these 3 we get , 150 + 50 + 50 = 200 i.e equal to final good bread value 200.
