In economics, when we are talking about prices, we have to consider that the government establishes minimums and maximums about pricing for basic goods that are needed in a society. This is due to people can afford those goods. But in an open market economy, prices are established by supply and demand, and the government does not interfere, just in extreme cases when some kind of regulation is needed to keep control of the economy.
