tis noteworthy that an hour has 60 minutes and thus 12 minutes is really just 12/60 of an hour, namely 1/5 hr, the rate in this case is in mph, so is using hours in it, thus we need the time to be in hours as well.

\bf\stackrel{distance}{d}=\stackrel{rate}{(110)}\stackrel{time}{\left( \cfrac{1}{5} \right)}\implies d = \cfrac{110}{5}\implies d=22~miles

What is 16 divided by X^2 equals 8 divided by X + 6?
zaharov [31]
Solve: \frac{16}{x^{2}} = \frac{8}{x + 6}

\frac{16}{x^{2}} = \frac{8}{x + 6}

\text{Cross multiply: } 16(x + 6) = 8x^{2}
\text{Simplify: } 2(x + 6) = x^{2}
\text{Expand: } 2x + 12 = x^{2}

\text{Solve for x: } x^{2} - 2x - 12 = 0

\text{Use the quadratic equation: } x = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^{2} - 4ac}}{2a}
x = \frac{2 \pm \sqrt{4 + 48}}{2}
x = \frac{2 \pm \sqrt{52}}{2}
x = \frac{2 \pm \sqrt{13 \cdot 4}}{2}

x = \frac{2 \pm 2\sqrt{13}}{2}
\therefore x = 1 \pm \sqrt{13}

A scale drawing of a building needs to be made using the scale 1 in = 200 ft. How tall will the building in the scale drawing be
givi [52]
10in would be the appropriate scale factor for the drawing. 2000 is 10x200. If each inch represents 200 feet, then you would need 10 to reach the desired scale factor of the original building
