It is important to trust your instinct.

In the passage the speaker is talking about how he feels as though he is going to disappear. He says that his instinct is telling him "that the end is sure and must be early." This best supports the theme that it is important to trust your instinct. The passage does not say anything about appearances, good, or evil so these options are incorrect.

The theme that comes out in this passage is that it is important to trust your instinct.

Further Explanation:

In this passage, we see that the speaker has a particular sense of self-confidence about him, and this came from thoroughly trusting his instincts. He claims not to have the power to predict future circumstances, but he can definitely understand that the end was near, as he had a very strong feeling about it. He also addresses someone to read a narrative that was entrusted to the hands of the addressee, and for further information, he could always hear the confession of his unworthy friend. In this case, we can assume that Henry Jekyll is addressing it to his friend, the evil Mr. Hyde, which is his other character. The novella has an interesting plot twist, as the readers are introduced to the element of dual characters within a single character, and also how evil desires trapped within a man makes him lose conscience, making him commit the most heinous crimes.

The strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is incorporated with several literary themes, as it brings out the theme of dual personalities within a person. The narrator Utterson, narrates the strange occurrences that have occurred with one of his clients called Henry Jekyll, and his evil friend, Edward Hyde. The two people, Jekyll and Hyde are actually two sides of the same coin, which means the same person. The novella incorporates ingenious employment of themes such as religious allegory, dualities of human nature, and trust in instincts. The novella is a representation of how there is a constant struggle for dominance between the good and bad in our soul, which can be interpreted as a parallel between civilization vs barbarism.
