4 0

The two fractions have the same denominator ( bottom number) so you need to add the top numbers together:

3/5 + 1/5 = 4/5 of snow so far.

1 meter would be equal to 5/5 so they need 1/5 meter more (5/5 - 4/5).

Suppose that you roll a pair of honest dice. If you roll a total of 6, you win $18; if you roll a total of 11, you win $72;
ser-zykov [4K]

You can roll a total of 6 by rolling (1, 5), (2, 4), (3, 3), (4, 2), or (5, 1). There are 36 total possible rolls that can be obtained, so you roll a total of 6 with probability 5/36.

You can roll a total of 11 by rolling (5, 6) or (6, 5), hence with probability 2/36 = 1/18.

Any of the other remaining 29 outcomes occurs with probability 29/36.

The expected value of your winnings is

$18*5/36 + $72*1/18 - $9*29/36 = -$0.75

so the answer is E.

You are standing above the point (5,5)(5,5) on the surface z=15−(2x2+2y2)z=15−(2x2+2y2). (a) in which direction should you walk
Marianna [84]
Since the surface is the top part of a sphere centred on the origin, the directions of steepest descent are any vector originating from the origin (0,0).

At (5,5), the direction would be dictated by the line joining (5,5) and the origin (0,0), i.e. along <5,5> or equivalently along <1,1>.

You can also go through vector calculus to arrive at the same result.
