Answer:

Separated from the outside world, Elisa has few human connections.

Explanation:

The short story of "The Chrysanthemums" by John Steinbeck tells the story of a couple who are living in a rural ranch in the foothills of the Salinas valley. They hardly have any human interaction, especially the protagonist of our story, Elisa. She is depicted as being happy to be working in her own garden, but this was not entirely true for we see her eagerness to be involved in a conversation with strangers who come through the place.

John Steinbeck introduces the Salinas Valley as being like a <em>"closed pot"</em> which will also be symbolic for Elisa's character. It denotes the secluded nature of the place, just like her character's seclusion from the outside world. This is also evident when Elisa expresses her desire to be able to travel like the stranger, free and wherever she wants to instead of being stuck in a particular place. She is also aloof, with few human connections.

Select the correct inference of the given passage from "The Cask of Amontillado."
Marina CMI [18]

Answer: The narrator has been insulted many times and now vows revenge against Fortunato.

Explanation: All other options are the result of a poor understanding of the text: in a void, the "thousand injuries of Fortunato" could be understood as injuries that Fortunato has suffered, but the context lets us know it is the other way around as soon as we read "I had borne," which actually means "I have suffered" (borne is the past participle of bear, not of born). To venture upon here means to start doing something new, figuratively coming into a new territory, which, in this context, is injury.

Libertarian theory of the press EXAMPLE
andrew11 [14]

Answer:

Journalists in Finland are top-rated in ranks by the World Press Freedom Index because of the unrestricted freedom their journalists enjoy while writing reports.

Explanation:

The Libertarian Theory of the press is a normative theory of the press where journalists are granted maximum freedom to publish stories, news and classified information without interruption by the government.

Finland has consistently ranked first position as a country where freedom of information is granted and journalists can publish news without fear of intimidation by the people or the government. This is not obtainable in authoritarian states like Russia.
