It forced Germany to "accept the responsibility for causing all the loss and damage" of the war. Germany was forced to disarm, give up land to France, and to pay reparations of 132 billion Marks (around $442 billion in 2014 money).

1) German invasion of Poland on September 1st, 1939: this started officialy World War II.

2) Soviet invasion to Poland on September 17th, 1939: Polish troops were focused on the German invasion, the Soviets quickly gained Eastern Poland.

3) Winter War started on November 30th, 1939: The Soviet Red Army inaded Finland with over 500,000 troops. Although the Finns risisted heroically, they were outnumbered and forced to cede 11 territories.

4) German attack on France started on May 10th, 1940. Germany began the attack against Belgium, Holland and France. On May 13th the german troops emerged form the Ardennes.

5) Soviet occupation of Latvia on June 17th, 1940: The Soviets formed a new government organizing elections with only one list of approved candidates.
