Han has a thin rectangular sheet of paper. Its area is 450 square inches. He folds it into thirds, and then he folds the resulti

ng rectangle into thirds again. Han believes that after two rounds of folding, the visible area of the folded paper will be 150 square inches, or one-third of the original area. Do you agree

<h3>The given statement is not true. </h3>

Step-by-step explanation:

Here, the initial area of the sheet  = 450 sq inches.

After folding the sheet in to thirds ONCE :

The area of the each rectangle so formed   =  \frac{1}{3} \times 450 =  150 sq. inches

So, the area of each rectangle  = 150 sq inches

After folding the sheet in to thirds TWICE :

The area of the each rectangle so formed   =  \frac{1}{3} \times 150 =  50 sq. inches

So, the area of each rectangle  = 50 sq inches

So, as we can see after two rounds of folding, we get in total 9 rectangles.

The area of each rectangle so formed   =   50 sq inches.

50 sq inches  = (\frac{1}{9} )^{th} of the total area.

Hence, the given statement is not true.

What is the equation of the line that is perpendicular to the given line and passes through the point (5, 3) ?
Lisa [10]

For this case we have that by definition, the equation of the line in the slope-intersection form is given by:

y = mx + b

Where:

m: It's the slope

b: It is the cut-off point with the y axis

According to the figure, the line goes through the following points:

(x_ {1}, y_ {1}) :( 8, -10)\\(x_ {2}, y_ {2}): (- 8,10)

We found the slope:

m = \frac {y_ {2} -y_ {1}} {x_ {2} -x_ {1}} = \frac {10 - (- 10)} {- 8-8} = \frac {10 + 10 } {- 16} = \frac {20} {- 16} = - \frac {5} {4}

By definition, if two lines are perpendicular then the product of their slopes is -1:

m * - \frac {5} {4} = - 1\\m = \frac {-1} {- \frac {5} {4}}\\m = \frac {4} {5}

Thus, the equation is of the form:

y = \frac {4} {5} x + b

If the line goes through (x, y) :( 5,3)we have:

3 = \frac {4} {5} (5) + b\\3 = 4 + b\\3-4 = b\\-1 = b

Finally, the equation is:

y = \frac {4} {5} x-1

Algebraically manipulating we have:

y + 1 = \frac {4} {5} x\\5y + 5 = 4x\\4x-5y = 5

Leo wants to buy some shoes. He found the shoes at two different stores for a price of $35.
sp2606 [1]

Answer:

$3.50

Step-by-step explanation:

Store X:

0.15*35 = 5.25

35-5.25 = 29.75 dollars

Store Y:

0.05*35 = 1.75

35-1.75 = 33.25 dollars

Total difference:

33.25-29.75 = 3.50 dollars

Find the value of y in the given triangle
Andre45 [30]

Given:

In the given triangle,

With respect to y, Perpendicular = 10 cm and Base = 8 cm

To find the value of y.

Formula

By Trigonometric Ratio we get,

tan\theta = \frac{Perpendicular}{Base}

Now,

Putting the values of perpendicular and base we get,

tan\theta = \frac{10}{8}

or, \theta = tan^{-1} (\frac{10}{8})

or, \theta = 51.34 ^\circ

Rounding off to the nearest tenth, we have;

\theta = 51.3 ^\circ

Hence,

The value of y is 51.3°.
