Until 1947, when India became independent, India was one country. At the time of independence, <u>religious differences overlapped to the limit and the country was divided in two.</u> Indian, mostly Hindu and Pakistan, mostly Muslim. The partition happened amid clashes that left millions dead. Nowadays, the two countries are considered enemies. The issue has extrapolated religious conflict, so India and Pakistan do not reach agreement on a border issue in the Kashmir region.
Each State is allocated a number of Electors equal to the number of its U.S. Senators (always 2) plus the number of its U.S. Representatives (which may change each decade according to the size of each State's population as determined in the Census).
