Read the excerpt from The Time Traveler's Guide to Elizabethan England.Simon Forman, who does attend plague sufferers, is a rare

exception: this is because he has himself survived the disease and believes he cannot catch it again. However, his remedy amounts to little more than avoiding eating onions and keeping warm. He has a recipe for getting rid of the plague sores that will afflict you afterward if you survive the disease; but that is a very big "if.” It seems the best advice is provided by Nicholas Bownd in his book Medicines for the Plague: "In these dangerous times God must be our only defense.”Which lines best summarize the excerpt?

Answer:

Explanation:

The remedy if you survive is the second best answer.

I think the best answer is the last sentence. <em>In these dangerous times, God must be our only defense.</em>

The reason I pick that is because the paragraph is very pessimistic. It does not offer much hope of survival, even from a person who has survived it (His remedy is onions and warm-- not really very effective). It also includes a tip that treats the after effects of the disease, but nothing very concrete about treating the disease itself.

The best choice after all the unsuccessful attempts is to turn to God which the writer believes is the only real hope.

Medicine could not do much is the point.

Answer:

The line that best summarizes the excerpt is While doctors like Simon Forman tried to help, others such as Nicholas Bownd relied on their faith in God.

Explanation:

The question is not complete since it does not give the options to answer, here are the options:

Keeping warm and eating onions was the only way to avoid the plague. This treatment was recommended by Nicholas Bownd.

Some Elizabethans believed that the diet caused the plague.

Nicholas Bownd suggested praying to God as the only cure.

Writer Simon Forman believed that God was the only answer to the plague.

He survived the disease and ate warm onions to treat his sores.

While doctors like Simon Forman tried to help, others such as Nicholas Bownd relied on their faith in God.

The general concept of the excerpt goes towards the cure of the plague back in the Elizabethan England, it is known that the medical advance of the time was not the best, but we have the two different perspectives where one gives ideas and experiment in order to find a solutions while the other only hope in the providence, all of the excerpt follows this thesis.

vlabodo [156]

Answer:

"Her situation demanded that she grow up before she should have."

Explanation:

In the given excerpt from "Pakistan's Malala" the author details how living in the Swat Valley under the rule of the Taliban greatly affected everyone especially Malala. And with the atmosphere, she also had to get accustomed to whatever is being brought up by the rulers.

The given excerpt reveals how she was made to grow up despite her young age. She wasn't a child with an <em>"idealist activist attitude"</em>, being merely a 10/11-year-old girl. But her love of books and studies were always there. The statement <em>"her situation demanded she grow up before she should have" </em>clearly reflects how she was affected by the Taliban's presence in her Swat Valley village.

Hawthorne uses his characters to express some of his own ideas about Puritans and about his own society, which is rooted in Puri
pochemuha

Two specific ways in which Dimmesdale foils Hester are:

  • Where she is strong, he is weak
  • Where she is shamed publicly - he is honored publicly

<h3>What is Puritanism?</h3>

This refers to the religious sect that rebelled against the English Monarchy and broke out to become independent and had certain beliefs that were aligned with that of Christ.

Hence, we can see that based on the beliefs of Hawthorne, he is said to be a transcendentalist and as such does not believe in the Puritan ways of self-denial and predestination.
