Read this excerpt from John Steinbeck's "Symptoms," which describes soldiers' horrific experiences in the war. How does the auth

or increase the emotional power of his essay?
This is how you feel after a few days of constant firing. Your skin feels thick and insensitive. There is a salty taste in your mouth. A hard, painful knot is in your stomach where the food is undigested. Your eyes do not pick up much detail and the sharp outlines of objects are slightly blurred. Everything looks a little unreal. When you walk, your feet hardly seem to touch the ground and there is a floaty feeling all over your body. Even the time sense seems to be changed. Men who are really moving at a normal pace seem to take forever to pass a given point. And when you move it seems to you that you are very much slowed down, although actually you are probably moving more quickly than you normally do.

1) Steinbeck describes the physical effects of war, such as “thick and insensitive” skin and “salty taste” in the mouth. These graphic descriptions in the present tense attempt to show the gruesome reality of war to readers.

2)2.Steinbeck describes the otherworldly feelings and strange hallucinations felt by the soldiers to highlight how most people have a difficult time comprehending war events.

3)Steinbeck argues about the negative effect of war on soldiers, such as fatigue, mood swings, and post-traumatic stress disorders, to persuade his readers to be antiwar and support peace.

4)Steinbeck uses the pronoun you while describing the horrific experiences of the soldiers. In this way, he makes the soldiers’ suffering more relatable to his audience.

5)Steinbeck uses scientific evaluation to analyze the negative physical and psychological effects of combat warfare and bombing raids, such as blurred eyesight, hallucinations, and disrupted digestion.

A) 1 and 5

B) 2 and 3

C) 3 and 4

D) 1 and 4

E) 2 and 5

D) 1 and 4

Steinbeck's description of the physical effects of the war dominate this excerpt. They show how gruesome and taxing war can be. Because the first reason is the best, any option without 1 should be eliminated. Next, you just need to decide between option A and D or sentence 5 and 4. Sentence 4 is true in that Steinbeck uses the pronoun you. By putting the second person pronoun in the story, he inserts the reader into the description and makes the reader understand that this can happen to anyone including the audience. Sentence 5 talks about scientific evaluation. There is no scientific evaluation of the effects. Instead, they are only reported. This means that Sentence 5 is not a good choice.

Based on the excerpt given above from John Steinbeck's "Symptoms," how the author increases the emotional power of his essay is by describing the physical effects of war, such as “thick and insensitive” skin and “salty taste” in the mouth. These graphic descriptions in the present tense attempt to show the gruesome reality of war to readers. And also, using the pronoun you while describing the horrific experiences of the soldiers. In this way, he makes the soldiers’ suffering more relatable to his audience. Listen to Love For Sale, and consider the following questions:
mash [69]

Answer:

A Adderley: bluesy and grounded in the beat; Coltrane: soaring mystically above the melody and freer in the rhytm aspect.

B Influenced by Parker but by the time of his stay with Miles Davis and John Coltrane, already incorporating a kind of fluid playing with more rhythmic freedom.

C Harmonically dense but still rhytmically relaxed as Lester Young.

D The genius of the piano displays rhytmical and harmonical freedom in his solo. His use of stretched triple notes is remarkable and unique

Explanation:

B Cannonball Adderley, equipped with the understanding and technique of Charlie Parker, had always played closely following and emphasizing the beat.

A In his 4 choruses solo in love for sale Adderley is noted for staying close to the melody and harmony of the song, but at the same time singing and flying like Charlie Bird Parker.

C Although Coltrane was heavily influenced by the old master, Coleman Hawkins, his style leaned more toward the looser-swinging jazz of Lester Young.

A In his solo of 4 choruses´s in Love for sale Coltrane moves freely atop the rhythmic pulse and doesn´t stick very close to the melody.

D Bill Evans´s solo is impressive from the first chorus on. He displays an off-beat melody and on bars 25 to 32 he exhibits a triple feel over the duple meter. The bridge of the next two choruses is used to freely improvise.
