Cuando los arqueólogos descubrieron asentamientos humanos en este sitio arqueológico, se cimbró la ciencia y la historia tradicional que siempre ha creído que los primeros hombres en el continente Americano cruzaron por el estrecho de Bering o Beringia, en la parte norte del continente, en el estrecho de tierra que existía hace miles de años y que conectaba Siberia con Alaska. La historia tradicional relata que fue por ahí cuando los primeros hombre de Asia cruzaron siguiendo a las manadas para cazarlas y alimentar a su familias.

En Monte Verde, los arqueólogos encontraron asentamientos humanos datados aproximadamente del pleistoceno, aproximadamente de 18 a 19 años de antigüedad.
