Answer: Personification

Personification refers to an abstract idea, an animal or an object which is given the qualities of a human. In this case. Dickinson states that Death travels in a carriage, and that he stopped to wait for her. These are qualities that do not belong to an abstract idea of Death. Instead, she is presenting Death as a living being with qualities that belong to humans.

Like how they started going to the same summer camp when they were 8, you can still read the sentence fine without it, but it's a nice piece of information.
