Let's have two numbers x (larger) and y (smaller). from the info above...

x + y = 3
5x + 4y = 29

so that means y=3 - x. we can sub this in
5x + 4(3-x) = 29
5x + 12 - 4x = 29
x = 17
then y=3-x=3-17=-14

so it's 17 and -14
