During the industrial revolution in England, a population of light-colored moths population fell while a population of dark-colo

red moths population rose. Both types of moths were usually found on the trunks of trees in cities.
Apparently, birds were eating the light-colored moths at a faster rate than they could reproduce. But they were leaving many of the dark-colored moths alone. What is the BEST explanation for this data?

a

The trees had become coated with soot and the dark moths were better camouflaged.

b

Dark-colored moths flew faster than light-colored moths.

c

Answer:

Option A, The trees had become coated with soot and the dark moths were better camouflaged.

Explanation:

During the industrial revolution, bark of the trees became dark in color due to which the light colored moth were easily identifiable.

In response to this environmental change, the moth also evolved and became dark in color.

However, the total moth population of moth then constituted of both light and dark colored moths but the birds could eat only the light colored moth because they could not camouflaged themselves against the color of trees’ bark.

Hence, option A is correct

Why are lethal dominant alleles so much more rare than lethal recessive alleles?
juin [17]

Lethal alleles cause the death of an organism prenatal or after the birth. Lethal alleles are usually a consequence of a mutation and they can be recessive, dominant or conditional. Since the lethal dominant alleles are harmful whether they are carried in homozygous (e.g.AA) or heterozygous (e.g.Aa) form,  a strong selection against them is present and thus these alleles are much more rare.
