In his 2011 State of the Union Address, President Barack Obama said: "Now, by itself, this simple recognition won't usher in a n

ew era of cooperation. What comes of this moment is up to us. What comes of this moment will be determined not by whether we can sit together tonight, but whether we can work together tomorrow. I believe we can. And I believe we must. That's what the people who sent us here expect of us. With their votes, they've determined that governing will now be a shared responsibility between parties. New laws will only pass with support from Democrats and Republicans. We will move forward together, or not at all—for the challenges we face are bigger than party, and bigger than politics." Analyze the types of appeal used in President Obama's statement. Use your findings and examples from the text to explain whether this is an argument or persuasion. Answer in a minimum of three complete sentences.

This is a persuasion based on the tone and language used.

He does not bring up points then oppose them the way an argumentative text would.

He simply addresses what he believes to be the best way to solve problems is to come together as one because we have voted and it was clear what the people want.

Read "Crossing the Bar" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Which line in the poem is an example of an independent clause?
Vikki [24]

Answer:

" The flood may bear me far"

Explanation:

An independent clause is a sentence that can have a complete meaning and can convey an easily understandable meaning to the reader without needing a complement, that is, this is a clause that does not depend on another clause to be coherent. In the poem "Crossing the Bar" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, we can see an example of an independent clause in the line "The flood may bear me far." As we can see, we can understand the meaning of this line, even without having the other lines of the poem to complement it. This is an independent clause.

How did Martin Luther King Jr and Robert F. Kennedy use rhetorical devices (Repetition and Parallelism) to convince the reader t
Sav [38]

Martin Luther King Jr and Robert F. Kennedy use rhetorical devices to convey their speeches for the masses as simple and powerful ideas.

Explanation:

Often, rhetoric's power rests upon the people getting the simple crux of the larger point that the orator is trying to make.

They have to be careful of making a poignant point and not a simplistic or naive one but at the same time they must also take heed.

Their audience comes from everywhere and they must be riled with a clear consignee summary or a peak into the statement they want to convey to the world.

This is done by the two leaders as they use Repetition of key phrases like 'I have a dream' by Martin Luther King Junior or Parallelism in comparison of black people with the Moses of Exodus.

Kaylis [27]

Answer:

- A Constructed message.

Explanation:

Constructed messages are demonstrated as the messages that are created with a conscientious and vigilant thought when the speaker analyzes that their own previous message was incompetent as per the requirement of the situation. Thus, these messages are deliberately formed with careful thought to create the desired impact on the situation.

In the given situation, Marvin's message('All right....off?') exemplify a 'constructed message' as his message is deliberately formed with a careful thought as Marvin felt that his previous message to Marcie's situation was incapable to create the desired impact upon her(to make her feel relaxed). Thus, his message exemplifies <u>'a constructed message'.</u>
