Sedimentary rocks are the rocks that are formed from the deposition, compaction and lithification of sediments. These sediments are carried from one place to another by the agents such as wind, water and ice. These rocks cover about 75% of the total rocks found at the surface of the earth, but it comprises only 5% of the outer 20 km of the earth. The fossils are found to be embedded in these sedimentary rocks. Some of the examples of these rocks are sandstone, shale, limestone and mudstone.
Thus, the sedimentary rocks covers three-quarter of land on the earth's surface.
