Read the excerpt from Anthem. I am neither foe nor friend to my brothers, but such as each of them shall deserve of me. And to e

arn my love, my brothers must do more than to have been born. I do not grant my love without reason, nor to any chance passer-by who may wish to claim it. I honor men with my love. But honor is a thing to be earned. Which best explains the philosophical concept reflected in the excerpt?

In this excerpt, the protagonist places a primary emphasis on the importance of earning respect. Love is not freely distributed for the author, rather it has to be earned through appropriate action. The author does not validate the concept that one must love simply because they are related to him by blood, they should provide him with a reason to bestow his love upon them.

Further Explanation:

Love and honor have a direct relationship in this extract. For every honorable act, the author is prepared to bestow his love upon his brothers, in equal measure as he bestows love and honor upon his men. This excerpt thus seems to cement the fact that love should not be considered as a natural sentiment, rather, it should be thought of as a reward that is hard to achieve, only then true respect and honor shall determine a person’s characteristics.

Anthem is a dystopian novel that follows the adventures of a 21-year-old man, who recounts his life by writing under candlelight. He mentions the use of pronouns to refer to more people who have been involved with him during childhood, precisely his family. His thirst for learning and an inquisitive mind makes him stand out among other people, but his dreams of making a name for himself have been quashed by the Council of Vocations. He seems determined to not let the Council of Vocations fix his future, but he tries to fulfill his dreams of becoming a scholar, by attempting to carry out his experiments in a hidden tunnel. However, his great discoveries are rejected, and he is forced to flee for his freedom, with the love of his life, again chosen by him.

In 150 words or less, write a plot synopsis of “The Most Dangerous Game”
ehidna [41]

Answer:

On a yacht bound for Rio de Janeiro, a passenger named Whitney points out Ship-Trap Island in the distance, a place that sailors dread and avoid. He and his friend Rainsford are big-game hunters bound for a hunting trip in the Amazon River basin. As the yacht sails through the darkness, the two men discuss whether their prey actually feels fear. Rainsford believes that the world consists only of predators and prey, although Whitney is not as certain. Noticing the jitteriness of the crew, Whitney wants to sail past the mysterious island as soon as possible. He theorizes that sailors can sense danger and that evil emanates in waves like light and sound.

Whitney then decides to turn in for the night, but Rainsford opts to smoke his pipe on the afterdeck for a while. Suddenly, he hears three gunshots in the distance and moves toward the railing of the deck to investigate. Hoisting himself onto the rail to try and get a better look, Rainsford drops his pipe, loses his balance in an attempt to catch it, and accidentally plunges into the water. His cries for help go unanswered, and the yacht quickly disappears into the night.
